Publishing platform for blogs, newsletters and paid memberships, combining a block editor with built-in email delivery, subscriber management and native subscription billing.
Ghost pairs a writing-focused editor with a members system, so the same post can be published to the web and sent as a newsletter to a segment of subscribers without a separate mailing tool. Paid tiers are handled through a direct payment-processor connection, which makes subscription revenue a built-in feature rather than a plugin. Themes are Handlebars templates, and a Content API supports headless use where the front end is built separately. A first deployment sets the public URL and mail configuration, completes the owner account setup and publishes one post.
You know it worked when
- The site loads at its configured URL and the admin interface signs in.
- A published post appears on the public site.
- A test member can subscribe and appears in the members list.
- A newsletter send reaches a test address.
- Content and uploaded images survive a container restart.
Known sharp edges
- The public URL is baked into generated links at configuration time, and changing it later leaves stale absolute URLs throughout existing content.
- Newsletter delivery requires a bulk mail provider configured separately; without one, posts publish to the web and silently reach no subscribers.
- Content, themes and uploaded images live in the content directory and the configured database, and both must persist or a container recreation loses the site.
- Major version upgrades run irreversible database migrations, so a moving tag across a major boundary requires a verified backup first.
